Rebecca Simon Miller practices oil and acrylic painting. Philadelphia-based since her MFA (Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, ‘10), she grew up in the nearby Brandywine Valley and now documents her connection to the plant life and landscape of Southeastern Pennsylvania through drawings and paintings on shaped paper and wood panel. At Alfred University (BAFA, ‘07), ceramics influenced her sense of texture and materiality in mark-making. Her panel and paper accumulations explore the experience of absorption, and the links between nature, magic, and making. Since 2013, Miller has worked with middle and high school students as a teaching artist for Mural Arts Philadelphia and has assisted in the painting and installation of a number of public murals.
