Pieno/Vuoto (full/empty), 2020, Archival Inkjet Print, framed in White Metal with UV plexiglass, 20 x 16 inches. From an ongoing series on Italian street art under the imprint Biagio53 (uneditioned, unsigned).
Artist/Photographer Blaise Tobia has been documenting Italy for more than thirty years. One of the aspects of contemporary Italian material cultural that he finds most interesting is its street art - especially in large cities such as Rome, Milan. Naples and Palermo. (He distinguishes “street art” from graffiti, which is rampant in Italian cities and often with little or no artistic merit.) Tobia is professor emeritus at Drexel University and has an international exhibition record. He has recently begun a new series of prints under the imprint “Biagio53” that are meant to be more affordable than his regular signed/editioned work.
